Quality Early Learning Experiences

One of the core values of Early Years Nigeria Initiative is Holistic Development. Therefore, we promote learning experiences that help children develop in all domains: physical, cognitive, social, character, and spiritual. We emphasize literacy because the ability to read is the foundation of academic success and opens the doors to many opportunities. Therefore, we celebrate World Read Aloud Day, Children’s Day, and facilitate Reading Clubs.

World Read Aloud Day

World Read Aloud Day

Every World Read Aloud Day (first Wednesday in February) 50 ECE students from UniJos visit 10 low-income schools to celebrate the joy and power of reading.

Children's Day

Children’s Day

On Children’s Day (27 May annually), UniJos ECE students organize learning centres that help young children learn through play.

Reading Clubs

Reading Clubs

ECE students from UniJos attend schools that serve pupils from low SES backgrounds for weekly read alouds.

Tarbiyya

Tarbiyya is a character education curriculum for pupils from Nursery 3 to Primary 2. Character Education improves not only children’s character, but also their academic achievement, prosocial behaviours, and school behaviour. This 12-week program teaches the character strengths of perseverance, hope, and joy. The Teacher’s Guide provides detailed lesson plans to assist teachers as they promote character and holistic development. Visit the Tarbiyya website to learn more.
